For those Days When Trust is Hard

Every single one of us go through experiences that cause us to make choices one way or another for God.  His Word tells us that each day is one that He has made and that it is a day to rejoice.

He causes each sunset to give way to a new sunrise that brings us fresh opportunities for obedience in areas both small and large. The choice of attitude we adopt is always up to us.

Surrendering to love, surrendering to trust in the Father’s plan and purpose for our lives will give us joy we never dreamed existed!

Obedience borne of love will see us in an attitude of praise, gratitude and trust regardless of our circumstances.  We will choose to rejoice.   The Word we have hidden in our hearts is to rule our emotions; without questioning the relevance or reasons we are simply to rejoice.

However, when the days in our lives come that threaten to topple the tranquility of the life we enjoy what gives us balance and stabilizes our hearts?

Nothing will stabilize us, bring peace to our souls and quiet our racing hearts but the Word of God that we have hidden in our heart.  Hiding the Word in our hearts is a discipline and a choice and it isn’t the easiest and most pleasurable pastime but it works and is effective!

The Word of God will rise to quiet the straying thoughts in our heads that threaten to take us way off course.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad is what the apostle Peter tells us when we face trials and hardships.  Our hearts will be able to rejoice when we make the choice to worship our unchanging God of mercy and might, compassion and companionship.

His friendship, His loving touch, His spoken words, His whispered encouragement and comfort all come to mean so much more than anything outside of Him can bring to us.

He is worthy of our praise and adoration, worthy of our worship and exultation regardless and in spite of anything we see in the natural areas of our life.

Repeatedly His word proclaims that He has goodness stored up for those who love and trust Him.

God has such a precious steadfast love for us, He takes great pleasure in the prosperity of His children and we are prosperous when we wait for Him and hope in His mercy and unfailing loving kindness.

The deepest core of our being waits earnestly and expectantly for the Lord for He has promised to be our Help and our Shield.  We can rejoice because we are one with Him.  But it is hard, so very hard sometimes to wait with patience.

Let us never grow weary in waiting upon Him, for His mercy and loving kindness is upon us in proportion to our waiting and hoping for Him.  We can rejoice in our afflictions for it is in the afflictions that we have cause to look for, hope for and wait upon our God.

Today I am calling out for His mercy. I need Him to undertake for us like never before.  I have neither strength nor ability to deal with the situation of today.  I need Him.  I need Him to release a buyer for our home.  I need Him to encourage us and show us His mercy by showing us how He has been busying Himself with our every step.

Psalm 37:23  The steps of  a righteous man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way and He busies Himself with his every step.

We might lament and say, oh, what if He does not delight in me, what if I am not considered righteous?  Read on…

Zephaniah 3:17  The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Saviour who saves!  He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in silent satisfaction and in His love He will be silent and make no mention of past sins or even recall them; He will exult over you with singing.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For our sake, He made Christ to be sin so that in and through Him we become righteous.

Proverbs 16:9  A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

2Corinthians 5 establishes for us that we are the ‘good man’, because He has made us to be the righteousness of God in Christ.  This is His Word and it is forever settled in heaven.  Selah.

Proverbs confirms the Lord is directing our steps, has directed them in the past and continues moment by moment to direct and establish our steps.

And Zephaniah? He confirms the joyous fact that the Lord rejoices over us and delights in us.  God is in our midst, loving us, pleased with us.

Jesus lifts up the hem of His garment, rises and dances because of His great joy and love for us!

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 30:18  - and therefore the Lord earnestly waits, expecting, looking, and longing to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving -kindness to you.  For the Lord is a God of justice, blessed, happy fortunate, to be envied are all those who earnestly wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him, for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship.  - from the Amplified version

Where do you need a touch from God, what are you believing God for in your days?  I pray these words will bless your heart and inspire faith and trust in the One who loves you more than we can ever imagine.

Blessed are Those Who Walk in His Way

Psalm 119: 1

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the Law of the Lord.  Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart.

Isn’t this just an amazing testimony for way back when in the time of David, Anointed Shepherd and King?  Before Jesus, before the Holy Spirit, before even the time when we had the luxury to read our Bibles, use different versions and cross references and concordances?

The author of Psalm 119 is telling us straight out that as he looked upon people’s lives, he saw a difference with those who were devoted to God and who chose to keep the Law of the Lord.  These words are showing us the heart of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  It is a heart full of love for us, the precious and beloved work of His hands.  These few words reveal the richness and depth of His thoughts towards us and they reveal that He has plans of goodness to pour into our lives.  The unspoken admonition is “When you hear His call, heed the Voice”.

In every society we have signposts that mark our level of prosperity and often they drive people into overwork and debt.

We can become so caught up in our lives, in the materialistic side of life, always looking at the green grass on the other side of the fence, trying to attain the achievements of another, that we completely miss and and miss out on the blessing of God within our own life.

We are called to a singleness of heart, to pursue truth, to live the Law of the Lord. If the giants of faith in the Old Testament could do it, how much more can we who have the ever present help of the Holy Spirit and a Bible?

Just as David watched the lives of others, so too, people are watching the progress of our lives.  Can satisfaction and contentment, peace and joy be seen upon us as we walk through the daily routines of life?

How many times I have looked at the lives of other Christians, seen the evidence of the blessing of God upon them and wondered if I would ever reach that state of blessedness.  Did I ever give thought to what it cost them?  The answer is Yes! and I wondered how we become so personal and intimate with Almighty God that His will is actually known and lived out by me.

Over the years I have learned that part of growing in intimacy with God comes through my repentance.  My acknowledgement of sin and even greater, my acceptance of His forgiveness.

My heart was apprehended by His love when I experienced the reality and freedom of forgiveness, felt the buoyancy in my heart when I realized the truth – that the power of the shed blood of Jesus had cleansed my conscience from acts that lead to death in order to serve the Living God. Hebrews 9:14

No longer did I need to bemoan and lament over the things I had done wrong in my life – the Scripture was clear – it became a light to my path.  The Blood of Jesus not only brought me forgiveness of sin, it went even farther and deeper and brought beautiful cleansing to my conscience.

The result of accepting this cleansing is humility within our hearts and unity with the undefiled who walk in the way of the Lord.  We are no longer stubborn and bullish in our attitude toward repentance.  We are no longer stiff necked and proud thinking we can do our own thing and go our own way.  One of the miraculous things that happens when we choose whole hearted repentance and obedience is the yoking that takes place with other believers.

There is a strength imparted to us when we yield to that yoking, together we can work through difficult areas in our lives, together we can overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Together, with the Holy Spirit’s help and the Word of God to light our way we can plow through the untilled land of our lives. With the Lord’s help, the crooked places will be made straight and the high and unholy places of idolatry shall be cast down, no more to be rebuilt, for we have given the first place in our hearts to the Lord who is our God.

Do you have some untilled soil in your heart that you need to yield to His sickle and plough?  Are you ready to walk in new depths of forgiveness, freedom and joy?  I am!

His Heart is Set on YOU

Do you know that God’s heart is set on YOU?

When we make a decision to walk in the ways God has set out for us we soon realize several things that melt our hearts with love for Him.   And when we do walk in His ways, His heart melts with love for us!

As Lord of All, He is Kind, Benevolent, Merciful and Gracious – He is these things towards us and we are the first in His heart.  His heart is set on us and will not be moved.

His thoughts towards us are as the sand of the sea…we will never comprehend or fully know how much He is always thinking about us and how He considers us to be the shiny, untarnished, unblemished apple of His eye.Continue Reading

The Logistics of Love

Keeping the commandments-the greatest one love for God and love for people drives us to abide in the love of God.  His word teaches us the logistics of love.

What sweeter place can there be?  What better hiding place when we discover we do not have the natural ability to love as He has.

When we find it difficult to keep the commandment to love we then must choose to obey by faith the Lord’s instructions to love and to meditate on what He has taught us about the logistics of love.

I shall love the Lord my God, I shall because I am obliged to do so – I obey and the fruit of my obedience is blessing!  And His enabling power to love who I cannot.

When we have chosen to deliberately set our wills to love God by our obedience to His Word we will discover that we are abiding in His love and living out of that determination to keep the Father’s commandments.

How many times are our hearts apprehensive when we hear the words of Jesus speak to our hearts to love one another just as He has loved us?  It isn’t everyone of us who is easy to love after all!

One might think He was asking too much of us until we consider Jesus who said and continues speaking out the truth that ” we are His friends if we keep on doing the things which He commands us to do” see John 15:14.

But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father.  I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.”

I have called you My friends…

He looks out at the sea of humanity and declares His friendship with each person.Continue Reading

From Lame and Lonely to filled with Glory

He was growing weary of this unchanging routine day after day.  Sure, he was thankful for his buddies who were willing to carry his lame body day after day to the Beautiful Gate, but life didn’t feel very beautiful there.   And yet it was no ordinary gate for Ezekiel 43:1-4 speaks of how the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate facing toward the east, the Beautiful Gate.

He felt forgotten about, lonely and largely ignored by those who passed by.  Feeling ignored and  lonely were feelings he had hardened himself to as one day turned into  a month that turned into years and here he was. Still spending his days begging alms and praying.

“Alms are noted as being compassionate, charitable gifts as exercised toward the poor.  The tender heart of the giver is showing mercy and compassion to the poor.”  They really hadn’t helped him that much as he thought about the depth of his need, the never changing hunger, the ever growing desire for something more, something beyond his reach.

He had to admit his praying had created a hunger inside him for more than just food and money.  He wanted so much more but couldn’t quite put a finger on his need and what would meet it.Continue Reading
