For those Days When Trust is Hard

Every single one of us go through experiences that cause us to make choices one way or another for God.  His Word tells us that each day is one that He has made and that it is a day to rejoice.

He causes each sunset to give way to a new sunrise that brings us fresh opportunities for obedience in areas both small and large. The choice of attitude we adopt is always up to us.

Surrendering to love, surrendering to trust in the Father’s plan and purpose for our lives will give us joy we never dreamed existed!

Obedience borne of love will see us in an attitude of praise, gratitude and trust regardless of our circumstances.  We will choose to rejoice.   The Word we have hidden in our hearts is to rule our emotions; without questioning the relevance or reasons we are simply to rejoice.

However, when the days in our lives come that threaten to topple the tranquility of the life we enjoy what gives us balance and stabilizes our hearts?

Nothing will stabilize us, bring peace to our souls and quiet our racing hearts but the Word of God that we have hidden in our heart.  Hiding the Word in our hearts is a discipline and a choice and it isn’t the easiest and most pleasurable pastime but it works and is effective!

The Word of God will rise to quiet the straying thoughts in our heads that threaten to take us way off course.

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad is what the apostle Peter tells us when we face trials and hardships.  Our hearts will be able to rejoice when we make the choice to worship our unchanging God of mercy and might, compassion and companionship.

His friendship, His loving touch, His spoken words, His whispered encouragement and comfort all come to mean so much more than anything outside of Him can bring to us.

He is worthy of our praise and adoration, worthy of our worship and exultation regardless and in spite of anything we see in the natural areas of our life.

Repeatedly His word proclaims that He has goodness stored up for those who love and trust Him.

God has such a precious steadfast love for us, He takes great pleasure in the prosperity of His children and we are prosperous when we wait for Him and hope in His mercy and unfailing loving kindness.

The deepest core of our being waits earnestly and expectantly for the Lord for He has promised to be our Help and our Shield.  We can rejoice because we are one with Him.  But it is hard, so very hard sometimes to wait with patience.

Let us never grow weary in waiting upon Him, for His mercy and loving kindness is upon us in proportion to our waiting and hoping for Him.  We can rejoice in our afflictions for it is in the afflictions that we have cause to look for, hope for and wait upon our God.

Today I am calling out for His mercy. I need Him to undertake for us like never before.  I have neither strength nor ability to deal with the situation of today.  I need Him.  I need Him to release a buyer for our home.  I need Him to encourage us and show us His mercy by showing us how He has been busying Himself with our every step.

Psalm 37:23  The steps of  a righteous man are directed and established by the Lord when He delights in his way and He busies Himself with his every step.

We might lament and say, oh, what if He does not delight in me, what if I am not considered righteous?  Read on…

Zephaniah 3:17  The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Saviour who saves!  He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in silent satisfaction and in His love He will be silent and make no mention of past sins or even recall them; He will exult over you with singing.

2 Corinthians 5:21  For our sake, He made Christ to be sin so that in and through Him we become righteous.

Proverbs 16:9  A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.

2Corinthians 5 establishes for us that we are the ‘good man’, because He has made us to be the righteousness of God in Christ.  This is His Word and it is forever settled in heaven.  Selah.

Proverbs confirms the Lord is directing our steps, has directed them in the past and continues moment by moment to direct and establish our steps.

And Zephaniah? He confirms the joyous fact that the Lord rejoices over us and delights in us.  God is in our midst, loving us, pleased with us.

Jesus lifts up the hem of His garment, rises and dances because of His great joy and love for us!

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 30:18  - and therefore the Lord earnestly waits, expecting, looking, and longing to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving -kindness to you.  For the Lord is a God of justice, blessed, happy fortunate, to be envied are all those who earnestly wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him, for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship.  - from the Amplified version

Where do you need a touch from God, what are you believing God for in your days?  I pray these words will bless your heart and inspire faith and trust in the One who loves you more than we can ever imagine.

Gracing His Table

This past week has been a busy one, full of stress, relief and excitement all at the same time!  Thoughts have galloped like wild, fear crazed animals across my mind and peace and calm just as suddenly have descended upon my heart and mind.

And we have all been there haven’t we!  Facing a myriad of circumstances, we experience a myriad of feelings and emotions.  We can know with complete confidence the Lord has guided our footsteps and walked us into the place He purposes for us, and somewhere in the time between places, our minds just play havoc with us, even when we are faithful to the Word of God.

Part of being faithful to His Word is to lasso all those crazy thoughts and pull them in so they are in alignment with the Word of God.  Once in alignment, the Word can take over and we can practise keeping His Word so it keeps us in perfect peace.  It takes focus and discipline to do this but it is so worth learning!

We are confident that the good work the Lord began in us, He will complete, finish and perfect.  We have just returned from an out of town specialist appointment and Bruce has received a clean bill of health ~ big relief!  Big praises to God!

On the wall behind our kitchen nook we have a picture of a barren tree in winter with the caption;

“For everything there is a season and a time for everything under heaven.”  Ecc.3:1

The verse and picture is a constant reminder to my heart of just that!  That every millisecond of our times is in God’s hands and He knows how to manifest exactly what we need at just the right time.

My in-between times are in His hands and He holds me close.  I am not far from His heart at all for His thoughts towards each one of us are innumerable, way past our ability to count!

And, look what else He says about us from Hebrews 1:3

Jesus is the sole expression of the glory of God (and He dwells within us expressing the glory of God), Jesus is the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the Divine, and He is the perfect imprint and very image of God’s nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power.

He is upholding you and me, maintaining us, giving us what we need, looking after us so we are in mint condition and He is propelling us by His mighty word of power!  That is a promise worth being excited about!

We are all so different and yet He knows every hair on our head, He doesn’t lose track as our hair thins and falls out with age.  He looks at each one of us and calls us Beautiful, Exquisite One, Rare Beauty, and Treasured Possession.

Today, a Facebook friend commented on a picture of my teacups and it made think about the day when we will be gracing His banqueting table.    2015-02-26 11.53.05

I imagine Him gazing long at each one of us, marvelling at our differences, thrilling at how exquisitely beautiful to Him we are and He will think how He just couldn’t do without us, gracing His table with our radiant and wondrous beauty!

His heart will be bursting with the fullness of His love for us.

So maybe, instead of letting wild thoughts race through our minds, perhaps we could try focusing on the Beauty of the Lord and the perfectly exquisite love He has for each one of us.

When ‘those days’ come and we feel stressed, let us remember and recall that it is because of our dear Lord’s mercy and loving kindness that He reaches out His arms to us and lifts us out of the miry clay and sets our feet upon the Rock!

May we remember that each new morning His mercies are new and the stability the Lord can bring us is abundant and great for He is a faithful God and we can fully trust Him.  Let us continue to hope in Him and wait for Him and be expectant in our waiting.  (I think that is why I am feeling so stressed about this house selling- I am expectant and I keep expecting!)

The Lord promises to be good to those who wait for Him with hope and expectation.

Are you waiting on the Lord with hope and expectation for the meeting of your needs?  Is there anything I can pray with you about and believe God for with you?

The Field of Our Hearts

We have treasure buried in the field of our hearts; treasure we can depend on and trust in.

The treasure shines bright, it never loses its value, and its currency is even greater than gold.

However, for many of us we have covered that treasure with worldly thinking and a worldly focus.  Soon, this field of our hearts is a mound of dirt rather than a field of good, rich soil bearing good fruit.

Trusting in God with all of our heart requires a stripping away of the layers of dirt and veneer that cover the untruths needing removal.  We don’t think about the lies and falsehoods we believe until we are confronted with a situation.  In fact, until a difficult situation arises, we are not even aware of what our hearts are truly trusting.

Where is your heart trusting?

As in the process of the sale of our house, the Lord showed me how I have been trusting in my own dreams and perceptions.  I have been looking at approximately how much money we might end up with after the sale, focusing on that and I hear the Spirit of the Lord say, “the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness peace and joy.  The Kingdom of God is treasure buried in the field of our hearts.  The Kingdom of God means focusing on the intangible and not on what we can see.”

Our beloved God wants us to look at Him alone and be so enamored by His beauty, grace and kindness that we lift up holy hands in worship, praise and adoration.

Psalm 63:4  I bless You every time I take a breath (Praise You Jesus, I bless You Father), My arms wave live banners, (I bless You Lord, I bless Your Holy Name, Worthy are You Lord, Worthy are You, Lord),  of praise to You.

The simple physical act of lifting our hands before the King can bring change to our circumstances.  How?  When we come before Him with closed hands, we are holding onto what we perceive as ‘ours’.  However, the truth?  We are stewards and the only treasure we possess is the immeasurable greatness of the glory of God in the field of our hearts!

The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure buried in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy, he goes and sells all he has to buy that field.  Matthew 13:44

We possess this glorious treasure, this divine Light of the Gospel in our frail human hearts.  Our hearts are the field and the field can be pure or strewn with litter and covered with mounds of earth.  These ‘mounds of earth’ are covering up the treasure.  The mounds of wrong thinking and perceptions shade and bring eventual darkness to the field of our hearts.

If we were to ‘hide precious treasure’ in a field we wouldn’t be leaving telltale marks of its hiding place so the enemy can easily come in and steal from us.  No!  We keep a pure heart and a heart wholly trusting in the Lord and in His promises.  Hiding His promises in our hearts so we do not sin and hiding His Word in our hearts to keep pure.

The Treasure is Valuable

The value of the intangible Treasure of God can be lost when we keep our eyes too long focused on the riches of this world.

The treasure of God’s glory never loses its value; we just allow it to feel of diminished value by looking at the glittery pseudo-gold of the world.

Can you see as you lift up your holy hands to the Lord, palms upturned and fingers spread wide; can you see all that you have been holding onto slip right through your fingers…

Open hands

Don’t hang on

Let it go

Empty hands

Lifted to God

Are filled

Nothing is ours

All is a gift

Everything belongs to God

We steward

Obey His Word

Lift holy hands

Breathe and bless His Name.

He is good.

God is the giver of every good and perfect gift and God our Father has already given us all we need for life and godliness so will you trust Him with your whole heart?  Will you ask Him where the mounds of earth are so you can uncover the treasure buried in the field of your hearts?

To God, all of who we are is laid bare.  The truth of who we are reveals itself to us as we hear the voice of God tenderly speaking to our hearts. As every moment of every day of our lives is lived in the light of His holy purity, our conscious thoughts are more apt to be God-focused and God-centered and ultimately our subconscious thoughts take care of themselves.

That which is underneath receives a constant cleansing as we renew our minds with the Word of God.  Like a magnet to metal and moth to the flame we are inexplicably drawn to the center of our Father’s heart.

Holy purity is seen in the lives of those who are wholly consecrated and set apart for the glory of God, those who have emptied their lives of self’s desires-not just for God’s praise for works well done, but in order to be full of something much greater.

How can we carry the weighty worthiness and honorableness of God Almighty in anything less than sanctified lives?

Will we die so that He may live through us? Will we  die to our will, our way, our wantonness?  Will we let His glory bring light to our understanding so we might know how to put on the newness of truth in our minds and how to walk and live and talk like God in true righteousness and holiness.

The breastplate of righteousness guards the glory of God within us even as it breaks the power of sin’s dominion over us by our consistent good and right choices enabling us to walk in the love and peace of God.

Your life and all that you are is a gift; have you abandoned yourself in your pursuit of God and the giving out of what He has given you?

Synchronized and Abandoned

Have you ever watched a group of synchronized swimmers and marveled at the unity of their actions, admired their grace and flexibility?  You can tell they have abandoned themselves to the program, abandoned themselves to the music and the feel of the water.

As a group of synchronized swimmers, they have trained and practised for many hours, disciplining themselves to the hard work of synchronizing with the other.  Their movements must all be the same, – synchronized, and each one must move like the other, in tune with the music and according to the movements, the teacher has planned.

They abandon themselves to the lesson and put on a glorious show.  If they had abandoned the lesson there would be no synchronized movements, no beauty and grace to see.

We can abandon our trust in God and experience stress and ultimate failure or we can abandon ourselves to trusting God and trust Him to be working on our behalf to turn things for good.

There is quite a difference!

A building can be abandoned and left to ruin and is not fit for habitation.

You and me together and all believers everywhere, we are the habitation of Almighty God.  He is building in our characters, holiness, dedication, consecration ~ Abandonment to God!

We abandon our old ways of doing and thinking and abandon ourselves to taking on the mind of Christ by believing His Word.  We abandon ourselves to the promises and truth of His Word.

We choose to fret not.  We choose to trust!  In our abandonment, we find great rest for our souls.

We look at our seemingly impossible, hopeless appearing situations and shake our heads not being able to figure out how to get beyond this barricade of trouble.

But God!  But, our God, who stills the noise of the seas and stills the noise of their waves, is all the time working on our behalf for good.  Why?  Because He told us in His word that His plans for us are good, they are plans that will give us a future filled with hope in His unchanging, unfailing promises.

Beloved, we can trust Him with the seemingly impossible circumstances of our daily lives, no matter how fraught with trouble they are.

The ‘seas’ cover three quarters of this big ole earth ~ that is a huge expanse of water with tides ebbing and flowing unceasingly and with such steadiness that man is able to forecast a low or high tide right to the minute.

The stormy seas are magnificent (especially if you are on land!), they are fearful (if you are on the water!) and always awe inspiring.  When we remember the story of the disciples in the boat at night when the storm arose, in their fear they woke up Jesus.  He arose.  Christ arose.

Over the noise of the seas, His Voice rang out, ‘Peace, be still’.

The seas calmed as did the hearts of the disciples.  The seas calmed but the noise of the seas and the noise of the waves did not.

The noise is a natural consequence of the movement of the waters and it is beyond comprehension, impossible to fathom, and impossible in the natural for the noise to cease.

Yet, God, our God stills the noise of the seas and stills the noise of its waves.

Beloved, He is able to calm all our fears, bring peace to our souls so our hearts fully trust Him without reservation.  Will you join me and synchronize your spirit, soul and body with His Word so we can trust Him with complete abandon?

Abandon yourself in the Ocean of His Love.  You will float beloved, He will carry and sustain you and supply every need you may ever have.

Will you trust Him wholeheartedly?  I am learning as He peels away different layers and shows me what I am trusting in, instead of trusting in the Lord and allowing the Lord to be my confidence.   He will never fail us for His love for us is too great.

In the Ocean of His great love, let us be abandoned to His love and become the synchronized body of Christ.

He Does All Things Well

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes Lord that I might see wondrous things from Your Word.

It truly is wonderful to know that when we talk to the Lord He hears us and answers us. Surely, it is true that our God?  He does all things well!

We can share the most intimate secrets of our hearts with Him and He never turns His back on us, He never ignores our heart cry. He does not have an attitude of superiority even though He is holy and pure, true and altogether lovely, completely without sin…and expects us to be the same.

Our God is Awesome, Amazing and a Very Present Help

He is amazing the way He takes our lives and creates something of great beauty.  He never leaves us alone while we go through our fiery trials, He is right there in the fire with us and His gentle hand is refining us, shaping us, and perfecting us that we might reflect the fullness of the Image of the Son.  He is with us in the fire.  He is with us and turns us at just the right moment when it feels like the fire is too hot.
